ALK10 IMAGES
The series of images that accompanies alkantara festival 2010 was created by Luciana Fina and Moritz Elbert from photographs taken at Milan's Museo Civico di Storia Naturale in September 2009.
This marks a continuing collaboration between Luciana Fina and Moritz Elbert and alkantara, dating from the first edition of the festival. A series of images characterizing this edition's communication campaign are out on the streets of Lisbon and Porto from March 29th. Every two weeks until the end of the festival, a new image will make its appearance... “The series of photographic images that accompanies this edition of the alkantara festival continues to explore the dialectic between fiction and reality, one of the principal concerns in contemporary artistic creation. Intimately connected to the origin of photography, the dioramas offer a curious mise-en-scene of a reality reduced to fragments, authentic and verisimilar in its intentions. More real than reality, these scenarios are a singular hypothesis of how we might represent the natural world, a strangeness that is reflected in the eyes of some of the animals portrayed in the series of images. The ambiguity created by the photographic reproduction of these scenes resonates with the reflections that are part of contemporary creation in the performing arts and draws a connection to the space of representation of the stage, challenging us to reconsider these extraordinary worlds between three walls.
